Programme

Session 1

Session 1:

Matt Ellman (1)

Human-centred teaching that works: Integrated Learning and Assessment

Teachers know that to engage learners and see them make progress, you also have to understand who they are as people. The language classroom should be the ideal space for human connection, but it can often feel as though there is no time or space in the curriculum  for building rapport with and between learners. In this session we will see how the human side of teaching and learning is essential to our students’ success, and how integrated learning and assessment offers practical ways to build connection and foster better learning in your classroom.

Session 2

Session 2:

speakers cdays 25-26 (3)

Developing language and global citizenship through sustainability values

As educators, we have a key role in helping learners develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they need to be true global citizens and thrive in the world we live in. Many of these skills relate to sustainability. In this session we will explore why and how to incorporate sustainability values and beliefs into our practices and look at ideas and activities for the classroom.

Session 3

Session 3:

Jane Ritter
Mark Meredith

Building independent study skills in the age of generative AI

Many of our students are already using generative AI tools—but often in ways that undermine rather than support their language development. As English teachers, we have a crucial role in helping learners engage with AI more thoughtfully and strategically. This session will explore how we can guide students to use AI as a genuine learning partner that strengthens their independent study skills and critical thinking, rather than as a shortcut that bypasses the learning process.

Quick Talk 1:
