Programme

Plenary Session 1: Claire Ross (09:30 - 10:25 CET)

Session 1 - Claire Ross

Teachers often ask learners to ‘work together’ or ‘work in pairs’ but how can we ensure that group work is successful? Teenagers need support, instruction and feedback to help them develop the collaboration skills they’ll need for study, work and life. Find out how to do this with strategies, tips and activities to integrate into any kind of lesson.

Plenary Session 2: Herbert Puchta (10:25 - 11:20 CET)

Session 2 - Herbert Puchta

For many years, students, parents of learners, and perhaps even some teachers of English have placed the ‘native speaker’ model on a pedestal, surrounded by an aura of superiority when it comes to teaching English as a foreign language. In this plenary session we will look behind the psychology that seems to perpetuate this myth, and discuss the advantages that teachers who themselves studied the target language at school and university can bring to the field. Finally we will focus on the vision of the teacher as an expert user of English –an expert too in methodology, psychology and pedagogy – and share suggestions how such a vision can be implemented.

Plenary Session 3: Sarah Ellis (12:20 - 13:15 CET)

Session 3 - Sarah Ellis

The potential of generative AI tools in ELT is vast — but responsible and effective use is vital. Generative AI tools, as all other digital tools, should only be used with intent and clear pedagogical purpose, not simply for the sake of novelty. The key to success is identifying exactly where these tools can best support your teaching needs and goals. Informed by the Cambridge research on digital literacy and prompt engineering, we will explore a variety of practical and actionable ideas to try in class. Our aim is to empower you to confidently navigate a diverse range of Generative AI tools, enhancing your teaching practice and enriching your students’ learning.
