Using Cambridge One to Enhance the Writing Lesson

Charles Stewart

11.30 – 12.30

Writing is a subject that few enjoy teaching and even fewer enjoy learning. Usually, this disdain for writing is deeply rooted in the students' general lack of understanding of how to effectively write academically and a lack of motivation for writing. In this workshop, we will look at various techniques we can use in our classes to help motivate our students to become more effective writers using the Cambridge resources available for Prepare 2nd Edition on the Cambridge One platform.

Integrating learning and assessment – a practical guide

Olha Madylus

13.30 - 14.30

How do we help students become successful learners – not just excelling in exams but also understanding what they have learnt and celebrating each step in their language learning journey?
This presentation is all about success. Firstly, we need to define it in terms of the goals we set our learners, so they know what they are trying to achieve. We need a systematic approach to assessing their progress and practical ways of supporting them as a class and individually to reach their potential. Examples from Prepare will be used to identify the specific strategies that build language (and exam) skills; and these approaches work for students using any course books and at an age or level. We will discover how integrating learning and assessment is the key to a successful learning experience by maintaining motivation and confidence as well as developing autonomy.
